Seasonal notes from Puddle Cottage
June 25, Lanlivery, Cornwall
The bees are bubbling out of the hive, the veg patch delivers sugarsnap peas and a beautiful army of calendula and somehow June has become July. The wild roses were abundant this year and I collected bowls-full to steep in sweet-almond oil and gin for skincare and cocktails respectively. I am far too much in love with my new mower but have decided to leave a large swathe of lawn uncut for the bees, with just a curving path snaking through. Now the patch has grown up a bit I feel suitably secluded to do some yoga outside and what a revelation. To be amid the birdsong and get an upside-down view of the flower heads against the sky is endlessly nourishing and I find myself practicing more because of it. Every mealtime that allows is spent outside- the garden furniture following the sun throughout the day.
